NEW CIVIL AIR PATROL HDQTRS BUILDING STARTED

BIG BEAR LAKE, CA – The long awaited Civil Air Patrol Bear Valley Composite Squadron 6750 headquarters building broke ground over the Memorial Day weekend. The new community emergency services building is located on the Northeast corner of the Big Bear Airport at Greenway Drive and Meadow Lane.

The two story structure was designed specifically for emergency services, along with aerospace education for the youth of the community.  Squadron 6750, the local Civil Air Patrol unit, will furnish the building with the latest communications equipment to support its primary missions, including Search and Rescue, Disaster Relief, Counter-drug and, newly added, Homeland Defense. There will be office space for a variety of mission tasks, including administration, safety, public affairs, and mission coordination. A cadet program, for youth ages 12-21, will also be using the facility.  A large training area is being provided for Civil Air Patrol emergency response training, and will accommodate Mountain Mutual Aid community emergency services agencies, of which Squadron 6750 is a member. It will be equipped to serve as a satellite command center during most Big Bear Valley crises.

Lt. Steven H. Baker, a local contractor and member of the squadron, will coordinate the group of volunteers participating in the construction of the building.  Enough money has been raised through fund-raisers and contributions to frame and enclose the building before winter.  Additional funds and materials will be needed to complete the structure before it will be functional.  If you have building skills and/or would like to make a contribution to assist in completing this much needed emergency facility, please contact Lt. Col. Bill Hartmann at 584-9622, or Maj. Hank Peralez, Squadron Commander at 584-2314.

Civil Air Patrol is a volunteer, 501C, non-profit organization and is, by law, an auxiliary of the United States Air Force.  All contributions of time, money and materials are tax deductible.

The Bear Valley squadron, consisting of 27 senior members and 12 cadets, is one of 1,700 units nationwide.  You need not be a pilot to join the Civil Air Patrol
